Farrell Heyworth smart recycling move

Farrell Heyworth and PC World tie up to recycle IT equipment

Keen to play its part in reducing the growing volume of electrical waste that is taking its toll on the environment, Farrell Heyworth has teamed up with PC World to ensure that all its unwanted IT hardware is passed for recycling.

Last year the government launched its Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations to encourage companies and individuals alike to make arrangements for the recycling or safe disposal of their old electrical goods instead of throwing them away with their rubbish, and the leading independent estate agent’s IT department has taken the message firmly on board. The Farrell Heyworth IT Team

"With over 25 branches across the North West and a strong commitment to making the most of new technology to improve customer service, we produce our fair share of electrical waste so it’s important that we set an example by disposing of it responsibly", explains Farrell Heyworth’s ICT Director, Paul Morgan.

"The amount of electrical waste (and that’s everything from hairdryers to washing machines) that we throw away in the UK is growing by 5% year on year - which means that every twelve months the UK will create enough waste to fill Wembley Stadium six times over. What’s more, over three quarters of this ends up in landfill sites, where the toxins it contains can contaminate water and soil with potentially serious health repercussions for wildlife – and for humans."

"By working in partnership with PC World, one of the largest resellers of IT equipment in the country", he adds, "we can be confident that all of our life expired IT hardware and that which is beyond economical repair is disposed of within WEEE regulations. 85% of the materials that make up the products sent to PC World’s recycling centre are processed and end up back on the shelves as part of new PCs or other electrical items".
