Each week I’ll be visiting one of our fantastic branches to find out a little bit our amazing branch staff and what property means to them. And a little bit about the fantastic North West town they have the pleasure to work in. This week it’s the turn of our Southport branch.

I have to confess that before today I’ve never been to Southport and as the miles of towering sand dunes turn to one of the grandest Victorian seaside towns I’ve ever seen I can only wonder why? Even on the rainy day I chose for my visit, Southport High Street is full of people, and I quickly understand why. There are a huge variety of thriving shops and businesses and in my admittedly short visit I didn’t spot any empty shops.

When I talked to enthusiastic branch manager Helen Taylor she told me that this was a typical day in the town, “there’s always something to do in Southport, both for locals and visitors. I only moved here 6 months ago and I love it.”

About the town


Southport is a classic resort town full of grand Victorian terraced villas, family attractions and great public spaces. It has a vibrant restaurant scene, cinema and entertainment complex. Your typical town centre resident is retired, active and very discerning about the quality of cafes and shops on offer. Which goes a long way to explaining why the town centre has lost none of its seaside charm and vibrancy. The beach and seafront are full of attractions with a charming, family appeal which holidaymakers return year on year to enjoy.

Further out of town are several villages, each with their own unique appeal. Birkdale village caters to the areas foodies, boasting a variety of unique restaurants as well as a thriving main street. Churchtown village is full of ‘chocolate box’ appeal. With its pretty thatched roof cottages it’s a dream location for anyone searching for a traditional home with modern amenities on the doorstep. Ainsdale village also has an array of shops and restaurants and its location close to Southport’s impressive beach means that it’s often frequented by kite surfers and other sports enthusiasts. Formby village is known for its nature reserve but like all of Southport’s satellite villages has a street full of busy restaurants and shops.
