Each week I’ll be travelling round the North West, meeting our hard working teams in branch. This week it’s the turn of Ormskirk branch.
Ormskirk is a traditional market down with a difference. On Thursdays and Saturdays, Ormskirk town centre is alive with the buzz of over 100 different independent market retailers. Just as it has been since 1286. But don’t let me give you the impression that Ormskirk is old fashioned or outdated, because alongside its historic market, Ormskirk is home to Edge Hill University. This prestigious establishment boasts on average 16,000 students a year and won the much coveted The Times Best University award in 2014. Impressive stuff. Which means that this traditional Northern town is also a powerhouse of future talent and has the resources to cater for them.
The town centre is an eclectic mix of High Street shops and independent bars and restaurants. It seems that the student population and the locals alike enjoy an intimate mix of shopping and casual socialising with several larger towns just a short hop away for that big night out. The town has excellent transport links with 3 train stations in close proximity and easy motorway access to both Preston and Liverpool nearby.
The area surrounding the town offer a mix of urban and rural accommodation which make it the ideal location for student rentals and families. Surrounding areas such as Burscough and Aughton have grown in popularity as more and more home buyers look for semi-rural locations with all the amenities of living in a town.
Branch manager, David Todd is new to the Farrell Heyworth family and full of enthusiasm for his new branch. David and his team are local experts and are keen to tell me about the range of property stock in the Ormskirk market. Whether you’re looking for the perfect family home or a large house suitable for multiple student occupancy they have something on the books. But David and the team’s commitment to selling property doesn’t stop at their front door.
Dave was keen to tell me how they’re keen to take Farrell Heyworth out of the branch too, “We often get out into the market on Thursdays to talk to local people about what’s going on in Ormskirk. Our branch is situated in the what was the town hall, so we really are based in the heart of Ormskirk and that’s what‘s really important to us. We like to think we’re providing just the right service for this area and working hard for our clients.”
One member of the team, Anita Burgess, has been working in property in Ormskirk since 1996, “we’ve really seen the area grow in popularity, it’s become a much busier and more successful area. That’s partly thanks to the success of the local university and partly to do with the fact that Ormskirk is and has always been a really great place to live and bring up a family. The property market is really stable here so people feel confident to invest.”
David was also keen to talk about the strength of the property market on the town, “like any university town, rental properties are always very successful here. The only problem we have is finding enough properties, as there’s a huge demand and now always enough investors to meet it. I’d encourage anyone thinking of investing in property to have a look at Ormskirk. Property here offers a really healthy yield and we have very low void periods so investors are seeing great returns.
So whether you’re looking to invest in property to rent or find the perfect home it looks like Farrell Heyworth in Ormskirk is a great place to start.
