It’s so common to read reports about high unemployment figures and new recruits who are poorly skilled for the workplace. So instead of lamenting the lack of great candidates we set out to train our own. That’s the goal of our brand new Mortgage Advisor Academy, which will provide our first 4 recruits with the skills to dispense much needed mortgage and protection advice and will boost the number of independent mortgage advisers in our branches to 15 across the North West.

The scheme represents a significant investment in the local economy and will see the 4 recruits, Chris Cannon, James Bradburn, Barry McCarthy and Steven Greenwood put through their paces in an intense 4 month training schedule. The trainees will eventually sit their examinations with the hope of becoming fully qualified independent mortgage and protection advisers ready to give expert advice to Farrell Heyworth customers. I spoke to James, who previously worked for a national Estate Agency chain on Cheshire, as he headed for his first meeting and asked him how he felt about joining the scheme,

“It’s great to be a part of the academy! I have wanted to become a mortgage advisor for some time and Farrell Heyworth & MAB have given me this opportunity! I can't wait to get going and start seeing clients!!”

This arm of the academy has been set up in conjunction with Mortgage Advice Bureau, one of the UK’s leading independent mortgage brokers with over 600 advisers across the UK, but it isn’t the only training opportunity for Farrell Heyworth staff. The prestigious Farrell Heyworth Academy offers management level training opportunities to handpicked recruits from within the firm who have subsequently gone on to, amongst other things, become successful branch managers.

At Farrell Heyworth we hope that by providing this level of training we will be providing a much needed resource to local North West communities and ensuring our business employs well trained experts. Farrell Heyworth mortgage director, John French says, “We’re really proud of what our trainees have already achieved within the management side of the academy and we have high hopes for our first cohort of mortgage adviser trainees. They all have a vested interest in providing professional, independent financial advice for the communities that they come from and will go on to work with. We know our customers expect the highest levels of service and expertise and this scheme will allow us to continue to provide that.”
